Stronger,harder,lighter Graphene

A form of carbon consisting of planar sheets which are one atom thick, with the atoms arranged in a honeycomb shaped lattice

Wikipedia has a simple definition for graphene, "it is an allotrope of carbon, in the form 2-D atomic scale, hexagonal lattice"

Actually, carbon is capable of forming allotropes due to it's valency. Most famous allotropes includes diamond and graphite. Many researches help to discover more forms of carbon in different shapes including ball shapes such as Buckminsterfullerene and sheets such as graphene. Nano tubes, nano ribbons, nano buds comes under large scale structures of carbon. Among these graphene is special. It has got many features like:
•it is the thinnest compound known to man at one atom thick
•the lightest material
•the strongest compound that is discovered (300 times stronger than steel)
•best heat and electricity conductor
•harder than diamond
•the superconducting property of graphene can replace silicon in computer circuitry
•less heat dissipation and power consumption

Why it is not available in real world yet?

Mobility of electrons in graphene are unstoppable, resulting complexity in controlling. If I replace a silicon transistor with a graphene one, it is impossible for me to set the transistor in off state.
Researchers are working on this, trying to gain control over it. The results of their researches shows one promising aspect of graphene, that is there is much to learn about it.

If this comes to alive one can expect:
•a transparent mobile
•foldable T.V,mobiles
•to fold a computer and keep in their pockets and much more

Graphene has been in news from a pretty long time. You might have come across these properties but this excites you, graphene has got a brother namely STANENE.
It is also a single layer material made up of tin atoms. Even though research on graphene continues, scientists trying to create stanene. Unlike other conductors, the electrons in stanene will travel along the edge of the mesh but not get into the center because of it's quantum spin properties. If this comes into existence :
•wires could be made that would transmit electricity for great distances without loosing any energy
•this could become the world's first material to conduct electricity with 100% efficiency at room temperature
•this could increase the speed of next generation integrated circuits like anything

A team of researchers from Stanford university and several institutes from china is claiming to have found a way to create a sample of stanene. In their paper published in the journal Nature Materials, the team described how they processed to create the sample and the problems they faced while testing its conductivity.

Hope this is helpful and you like it☺
